Building blocks

For subject-matter mastery, our very own reading, writing, and math programs cover key concepts one-by-one, ensuring that students absorb the material at their own pace.

We help build learning foundation based on each individual’s learning needs. Prompt confident and enthusiastic learners who leave us as accomplished inspired students.

What is a Building Block Session Like?

Reading Comprehension

While reading a book or passage that fits their comfort level, students are challenged with a series of activities designed to develop deeper reading skills. Students learn how to sequence events, distinguish main ideas from details, and understand the contrast between what is written and what the author means.

Word Work

Our phonics lessons challenge students to decode both nonsense and real words, establishing an important skill set for reading independently at school and at home.

Vocabulary Development

Vocabulary drills help students develop problem-solving strategies for figuring out unknown words and phrases.

T4S Writing

Writing believes that – with the right combination of form and function – writing can be a powerful form of communication. We start by laying the groundwork for students to express themselves creatively, all the while ensuring that they adhere to the standard English conventions that make their work strong and coherent. We walk through each step of the writing process — from idea generation to revision — as a multipurpose tool for both academic and creative writing. As students master structure, mechanics, and expression, we expand into the finer points of effective writing. Whether “showing, not telling” or approaching a research paper step-by-step, students become fluent in the art of the written word.

T4S Writing Sessions are:

The Writing Process

Students are introduced to the steps of the writing process, including brainstorming, organizing, drafting, revising, proofreading, and finalizing their work. Tutors offer constructive feedback and hone in on areas of improvement to encourage students to become better communicators.

Grammar and Punctuation

Through explicit instruction, students master standard English conventions by breaking down the (somewhat confusing!) English language into manageable rules and procedures. As they demonstrate independent mastery of a concept, students are challenged to implement it in their own writing before moving on to a new skill.

Enrichment

Spelling, syllabification, and scholarly citations are just a few of the many topics we cover in the Enrichment portion of our writing program. As with Grammar and Punctuation, students are encouraged to apply these concepts in their own compositions.

T4S Reading

Reading aims to develop sound critical-thinking skills in students of all ages. Building on the fundamentals established in students’ earlier years, we facilitate discussion to encourage understanding through an analytical lens. Our lessons are designed to eliminate the stresses of reading while preparing students for the demands of the classroom and standardized testing.

T4S Reading Session are:

Reading Comprehension

While reading a book or passage that fits their comfort level, students are challenged with a series of activities designed to develop deeper reading skills. Students and tutors then review the activities thoroughly, addressing errors one by one to prevent them from happening in the classroom.

Vocabulary Development

Vocabulary drills help students develop problem-solving strategies for figuring out unknown words and phrases.

Word Work

Our phonics lessons challenge students to decode both nonsense and real words, establishing an important skill set for reading independently at school and at home.

T4S Math

Math breaks down complex math concepts into manageable pieces. Students master one piece at a time with the help of step-by-step instruction, building a solid foundation upon which each subsequent unit is built. This combination of specific skill instruction and ongoing assessment is the key to shaping, enriching, and maintaining math proficiency for students of all ability levels.

Computational Fluency

Students master basic operations (+, -, ×, ÷) in a timed setting. Tutors offer strategies for mastering these operations, including mnemonic devices, auditory and visual instruction, and storytelling.

Concept Building

After a brief assessment to determine their level of understanding of certain concepts, students are guided through step-by-step instruction. Tutors scaffold their instruction, tapering their teaching gradually, until students achieve independent mastery of the concept.

Homework Support

Every session includes an opportunity to ask questions, review assignments, and complete lessons that coincide with the homework from school.

T4s class support

Math. Reading, and Writing we help with everyday assignments to final exams. We are here to help each student understand how to navigate the complexities from Kinderdar to High School courses.
